This reduces your hot water usage and cold water is also better for your clothing. Contrary to popular belief, hot water isn't the primary ingredient to kill the germs, it's the detergent.

I confirm this. As a frugal experiment I turned off my furnace (which also supplies domestic hot water) this summer, used a portable water heater for outdoor showers (hmm!) and cold water for dishwasher & clothes washing. Perfect, no issues at all.
Have you considered building a solar water heating system?
